Ramona Lynn Staples

Ramona Lynn Staples, “Ishkode Ikwe”, age 60, began her journey to the spirit world on Friday, December 6, 2024 in Cass Lake, MN.

Mona was born on February 23, 1964, in Minneapolis, MN to Leroy and Edna (Sayers) Staples. She grew up in Minneapolis, Red Lake and Bemidji, graduating from Bug O Nay Ge Shig School in Cass Lake. She also lived in Ball Club and Cass Lake. Mona was a Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe member and worked for Leech Lake Gaming for several years. Most recently, she was a caretaker for family. She loved helping others when she could. She loved to dance, cook and play at the casino, spending most of her time with her sister, Carol – laughing, smoking joints and talking shit (as we all know). Mona has numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as extended family whom she loved very much and helped in any way possible.

Mona is survived by her children, Danielle ‘Manidookwe’, Kevin Dupuis Jr and Jarred Sr  ‘Ogijii-giizhi-gweb’ and Shawntay Pemberton; grandchildren Adrian, Iatic, Mason, Ariana, Neveah, Natalie, Jarred Jr and Jeremiah Pemberton; siblings Carol, Donna (Gary), LeRoy Jr, Leon Sr and Arlene (Ricky); and extra special nieces Nicole (George) and Dacia Staples.

Those meeting her in the spirit world are dad LeRoy Staples Sr, mom Edna Staples, brother Ronald Staples Sr, aunt Margaret Sayers, little brother John Staples along with many other loved ones.

A wake will begin at 5 PM on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN and continue until the service at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 with Spiritual Leader Allen Hardy. Active Pallbearers will be Rick Haaland, Leon Staples, Damon Staples, Shawn Staples Sr, Nicholas Staples and Adrian Iatic. Alternates will be Allen Isham Jr, David Staples, Jonathan Staples, Brady Fairbanks and Mason Pemberton. Honorary Pallbearers will be LeRoy Staples Jr, Leon Staples Sr, Donna Staples, Carol Staples, Arlene Staples, Curt Isham Jr, Donovan Staples, Allen Isham Sr, Trent and Jojo Michaud, Ronnie Staples Jr, Simone Fairbanks, Ariana Pemberton and all grandkids. Burial will be at the Fairbanks Family Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
