Richard (Ric) Lindahl, 67 of Laporte, MN lost his long, courageous battle with cancer on Saturday October 14, 2023. Ric was born on October 19, 1955, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Norman and Margaret (Dau) Lindahl. Ric lived most of his life in St. Cloud, MN graduating from Tech High School in 1973. Soon after, he enrolled in the drafting program at St. Cloud Technical College, graduating two years later. He worked in the commercial construction business for much of his adult life, mostly for Conlon Construction. During one such construction job in 2001, he met the love of his life Ann (Bauer) McDougle and her children, Dustin, and Ashley, from whom he would come to be called Dad.
Ric was a lover of all things outdoors. Most years you could find him hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling while exploring the woods. In 2009, Ric and Ann moved to the Pine River area, where they bought a 40-acre property that would be known as “the farm”, where Ric and Ann officially became husband and wife that same year. Two short years later, Ric would gain the name “Papa” when his son, Dustin, met his future daughter-in-law, Breeanna and his granddaughters, Ila, and Celia. Ric’s Papa role solidified when his grandson and best buddy, Caedehn, was born in 2014. Ric never loved travelling but made the move to Montana in 2016 to be closer to his grandkids. During his time in Montana, he spent every day with his grandkids, helping provide daycare for his best buddy, and exploring what Montana had to offer. In 2019, Ric was diagnosed with cancer, then, him, Ann, Dustin, and his family, decided to make the move back to Minnesota, because “If I’m going to die, I’m going to die where I love.” Thankfully, Ric’s family was blessed with 4.5 more years with him.
Ric leaves behind his wife Ann (Bauer) Lindahl (Laporte), his children Dustin (Bree) McDougle (Cass Lake) and Ashley McDougle (Breezy Point), his grandchildren Ila, Celia, and Caedehn, and his beloved animals, Mama Kitty, Baby One, Tiger 2, and the crazy hound Tank.
He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Margaret Lindahl, his brother, Russel Lindahl, and his furry, best friend, Gilligan.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held for Ric from 3-6PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Whispering Pines Funeral Home, 3695 Autumn Loop NW, Hackensack, MN 56452.
