Richard Roy, age 60, of Red Lake, Minnesota, a proud member of the Red Lake Tribal Nation and a U.S. Army veteran, passed away on August 3, 2025.
Richard was born on November 3, 1964 to Gerald Roy and Mary “Peaches” Roy. Richard lived a life defined by love, service, and connection. After serving his country with honor in the United States Army, he returned home where he dedicated himself to his family and community. He loved his work - he was a natural craftsman. Richard found great joy in the simple moments — cheering on his favorite sports teams, spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, giving nicknames to everyone, and making long phone calls to check in on the people he cared about. He loved to drink his Natural Ice with family and friends. He loved to joke around with everybody. His thoughtful nature and warm, steady presence touched everyone who knew him.
Richard is survived by his children: Cherissa Roy (Brian), Jenna Roy (Jim), and Michael Roy (Crystal); grandchildren: Nadina, Michael, Treyvon, Charlie, Amelia, Olivia, Elijah, Nathanial, Naomi, Jarrod Jr, Tristen, Jerrick, Caydence, Atreyu, and Jayden; siblings: Linda Miller, Ronald Roy, Randall Roy, and Laurie Klein; nieces: Deanne Haney, Dana Miller, Tawni Annette, Catherine Vass, Natalie Klein and Mary Klein; cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Gerald and Mary “Peaches” Roy; sister: Debra Roy; companion: Buddha Strong; and brother-in-law: Dwayne Miller.
A memorial gathering to honor Richard’s life will begin at 1 PM on Monday, August 11, 2025 at the Redby Community Center and will continue until the service at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 with Father Tom Niehaus. Active Pallbearers will be Mike Roy, Rod Lussier, Barry Oakgrove Sr, Clint Donnell, Mike Strong, Benet Klein, Todd Barrett and Marvin Stone. Alternate will be Pudgy Barrett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Linda Miller, Laurie Klein, Cherissa Roy, Jenna Roy, Wendy Johnson, Josh Stately, Roger Strong, Mark Barrett, Dave and Darrell Cournoyer, Randy Roy, and all cousins and friends whom he was close to.
Richard Roy will be remembered for his big heart, loyal spirit, and deep commitment to family. His memory will live on in the stories he shared, the lessons he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
