We took our kids to Huddle's every summer for years. Some of our best family memories were made on those grounds, all with Roy front and center. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My heart goes out to Roy's family. What a blessing to have known him!

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Roy Huddle. I’m hoping to share with you a comforting thought from the scriptures. The bible makes it clear that God did not originally intend for humans to die. He created the first human pair Adam and Eve, placed them in an earthly paradise called Eden, and instructed them to have children and extend their paradise home earth wide. It was only after our first parent’s disobedience did we begin to die. This enemy of our causes much grief and it can be great, even though we have the hope in a resurrection. It’s also this hope in the resurrection that helps us with our grief, 1 Thessalonians 4:13 tells us, “But we do not wish you to be ignorant about those who have gone to their rest, brothers, in order that you may not grieve that same as the others do, who do not have a hope.”-Byington Version
We know by deep prayer to God, and his promises, that he will sustain us. If you would, please, in your spare time look up Revelation 21:3, 4 and read one of God’s many promises.
I hope these scriptural thoughts bring you much comfort.

My Dad was the best! It is overwhelming that so many people loved him and were touched by his being. He was kind, honest, giving, ALWAYS RIGHT....😊 I believe God made an angel the day Dad was born... It makes me so proud to be his daughter. Thank you to ALL who have left messages of hope and remembrance in honor of my Father. May God bless you and your family.

My sincere sympathies to Roy's family. I was one of his muskie fishing regulars during the 1970s and 80s. It was always a thrill to be welcomed to the lodge by Roy after hours of churning the waters of Leech in pursuit of that giant muskie Roy talked about! Although I was not among Roy's close circle of friends, he always made me and my cohorts feel like we knew him for a hundred years. He'll be missed.

To the Huddle family and of course to Roy who I know is watch over all of us. We just found out about Roys passing earlier today and I wanted to express our sympathy. We had so many years around the 4th of July and so many great memories. He always look after his "kids", from fishing contests, to the cook outs, the visits in the restaurant on rainy days to his most famous afternoon water skiing... what great memories. What a great human being. He will be missed but we know that he will be watching and caring for all of his past and future kids at Huddles Resort.

Thank you Roy, Kay and family.

Most of my childhood memories include the two weeks my family spent each summer at Huddles Resort. Roy taught me to water ski, and going to Huddles was like returning to family each year. Although we have not been back in years, Roy's legacy has been spoken of across the country whenever we meet people from Up North Minnesota. My deepest sympathy as you navigate these next years without your beloved husband and dad. He has a special place in the hearts of so many people.

It is customary to say "rest in peace" but anyone who knew Roy realizes that won't be his style in his new, heavenly home. I think Roy will be giving lessons to the good Lord about how to greet guests because no one did it better than he did! Our family and friends who spent several vacations at Huddles looked forward to that first day and walking into the lodge to say hi to Roy. The golf cart, the bullhorn, and let's not forgot the "dock boy special" are some favorite memories. Jesus can walk on water and now he'll get to water ski too!

My husband Jeff and I met while he was working at Huddles several years ago. Roy and Jeff rescued us in a pontoon we had gotten stuck in a rice bed . My Mom was with and just told me to get out "and push". After Roy heard that he said " your Mom doesn't like you very much dioes she?"
Roy had a great sense of humor balanced with empathy and sensitivity !
Jeff is quite a bit younger than I- but Roy had words of encouragement- saying - he believed that "age doesnt really matter " and added " do you think?"Those words still echo in my mind as Jeff and I continue our lives together 18 years later ...
We love you Roy and Kay- wish we had been able to spend more time !

Dear Kay and all of your family members,

We are deeply saddened to learn of Roy's passing. We and all our children and grandchildren, have fond memories of our vacations to Huddle's Resort, starting in the mid sixties to about a year or so ago.

From the turtle races, the hot dogs and marshmallows, lending a car when ours was down in a ditch, to all the pot lucks and other meals, to the fishing advice and to always feeling welcome to Huddle's by Roy and Kay.

We have so many photos of our stays there and every so often we pull them up on our computer and relive all the great times we had each year.

Roy was so easy going, kind, open and trustworthy, knowledgeable, helpful, a genuine down to earth, really nice person......more like a family member lovingly taking care of his extended family members.

Dave keeps a photo on his desk of Roy and him that was taken out on the lodge deck and which we look at every day. What a blessing to have known Roy. We will keep him in our hearts forever.

Our prayers and deepest sympathy to you. . Mary and David Chase

Kay and family! Words will never adequately express how we are feeling. Our first meeting with Roy was 1995. Jack wasn't even born, he's 21 now, and Allison was 3., she's now 24.. After our first year, we decided 1 week just wasn't enough so we stayed two. Then 16 years later we decided 2 weeks wasn't t enough so we built a cabin just down the road because Roy showed us how amazing Walker/Whipholt and Leech Lake was. He was the reason we wanted to be on Leech Lake as much as possible. Allison worked there for 3 summers and Roy treated her like family. We will forever be thankful to Roy and Kay for allowing us to share their resort. Roy had one of the biggest hearts and it was clear he loved what he did and wanted everyone to enjoy their time up North and love it like he did. While we will still spend time at our cabin, it just won't be the same knowing Roy won't be there. when I walk by with Bailey. We equate Whipholt/Leech Lake with Roy. He embodied all that was great about a family vacation.

Many of our happiest times were spent in the Huddles Resort lodge dining and visiting with Roy and Kay and the Huddle family. We know Reed was pushing his way toward the front of the line to greet Roy in heaven. They can reminisce about the joys of Leech Lake together now. It is such an honor to be considered a colleague of his. When ever we would have resort meetings, Chamber events, DNR meetings, etc. Roy was the one you searched for. His leadership and steady approach calmed turbid waters and everything was better with Roy there. It seems Roy lived to put a smile on the face of all he met. You smile just thinking about him. The last time that we were there as a family, we had 4 kids, 2 in-laws, 1 out-law and 4 grandkids. We all had a fantastic week. Over the years each of the girls learned to ski from Roy and got to sign the ski in the lodge. Our family enjoyed many years of fun, food, frolic and foolishness at Huddle's Resort. We were there with our 4 sons, and then 3 grandsons. Roy and Kay were the consummate hosts, being sure that our every vacation moment was filled with opportunity to do something new/different/over again or just plain "for the fun of it". There staff reflected their good-natured commitment to the care of their guests.
Life is about New Beginnings. Death is the ultimate New Beginning, which calls us Home to our Paradise to be reunited with all past people and pets. The enormous legacy that Roy passed down to all those who visited him resulted in this world being a much better place because he was here. We send our most sincere regrets for his passing, and we wish the family a recovery filled with the joy that this good man left behind. Be sure to pray for him and pray to him, as he is in a place where he can help you in ways we can't even imagine.

Roy, finally has started a journey with reservations for more than the his first night.
The fact that Roy and Kay's journeys were without reservations beyond their first night always amazed me. The spontaneity of his travels would have scared most people.
But they always lead him on a quest to take in the world and make new friends.
A modern day Columbus and inspiration for all of us to explore the world. and leave a it a better place.
Roy's smile and energy was infectious. Serving on the Chamber Board and other organizations his ideas always complimented our community. His patience and positive attitude helped many resorters and businesses through difficult decisions.
We are away from home traveling now, but our heart and love reaches out to comfort Kay, all of Roy's family and friends.
Tonight we will be looking skyward for a new star over the Atlantic and the Sea of Abaco.

We can't begin to tell you how sad we are. Roy Huddle.....The patriarch of Huddles Resort. For those who never had the chance to create memories at this wonderful slice of heaven....you've missed out..Roy was the consummate host, grown up and kid camp counselor along side his lovely wife Kay. 23 years we've spent visiting the resort and you never saw Roy without a smile and his megaphone. He was in a way a big kid and a great business man at the same time. He never stopped and worked tirelessly to make sure all of us at the resort felt at home. Roy and Kay made Huddles resort what it is today and this man...with the iridescent pullover, pulling tubers and skiers daily and tirelessly, calling out BINGO letters, hosting the Monday eve turtle races and dancing with us crazy women to the jukebox , making special arrangements for impromptu karaoke......this man...will truly be missed.

To Kay and the entire Huddle family - We were so sad to hear of Roy's passing. We have enjoyed our time together as a family at Huddle's Resort for the past five years - and what kept us coming back was the amazing hospitality, kindness and generosity from Roy and Kay and the rest of the crew. We admired Roy's ability to have such joy and patience teaching all those multitude of children to ski on Leech Lake, laughing at when some older kids would get the "dock boy special" behind the tube, and watching the magic as Roy would get families who may not have known each other at the beginning of the week to forge lifelong friendships by the end of the week. Thank you to Kay and family for sharing Roy with us, our lives are forever enriched having known him. Sending you love, hugs and our deepest condolences.

You can consider yourself lucky if during your lifetime you have an opportunity to meet a person with Roy's integrity, enthusiasm and heart. He will forever be looking down and smiling anytime a child puts on waterskis on Leech Lake or roasts marshmallows over a campfire...I'll remember his warmth in every sunset I witness on Leech.

The greatest complement in the Navajo Nation is to be called "a Human Being." Roy was a "Human Being" in all sense of that term. God Bless.

I was very sad to hear the news of Roy's passing. When I heard the news a rush of memories came back to me from the summers I spent at the lake. I was never a paying guess but just a kid from down the road who would hang out in the lodge and explore the grounds looking for kids to hangout with for the next week. Most of my memories from my early childhood revolve around my summers at the lake. I always looked forward to my visit of the summer so I could go and check in with Roy and let me know I was there ready for summer to begin. Looking back Roy gave me my first job covering the pool and picking up each night for a week in exchange for a roll of quarters at the end of the week. Roy's passing is not only a big loss for his family but also for anyone who every had a chance to know him.

Deepest sympathies to Kay, the children, grandchildren and other family members who have lost a treasured soul.

Our family is grateful for having had the opportunity to share our vacations with the Huddle family and hope the endless memories this wonderful man hand a hand in creating somehow ease the heartache.

Heaven gained another angel! We will always remember Roy's smiling face as he greeted the new resorts guests for the week and extended a "see you next year" to the ones going home. It can't go without mentioning the big grin he had while pulling the resort kids for hours on end as they learned to water ski!

May the memories you have help to bring a smile to your face (as it does ours) and fill your heart with peace. Kay, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sending hugs from Hastings, MN!

An ancient religious tradition is that a man is judged by how he welcomes guests into his home.
Roys home was his resort and nowhere were people more welcomed than there.
People were treated as guests and as friends not just customers.
Roy will be deeply missed but the years of memories will be treasured forever.
