Shalyssa Marie Ostlund

Shalyssa Marie Ostlund (Migiziikwe, Eagle Woman), age 32, journeyed to the Spirit World on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.  She was born on July 3, 1990 in Bemidji, MN, to Michael James Ostlund Sr and Eljean Marie Whitefeather. 

Shalyssa obtained her GED in 2022 and was currently attending Red Lake Nation College. She was currently employed with Oshkiimaajitahdah Bemijiigamaag Office as a Receptionist. Shalyssa loved taking walks with her big baby Zeus, music Bingo, going out with her sisters and friends, spending time with her nieces and nephews, and especially the time she spent at home with her son, Robbie.  Shalyssa was outgoing, very friendly and always willing to help, listen and offer advice. If you needed her, she was there. 

Shalyssa was preceded in death by her Angel babies, her aunt who raised her Sherry Ostlund, mother Eljean Whitefeather, uncles Roger Sr and Thomas Ravensborg, aunt Brenda Strong, brother Robin Roberts, grandma Frances and numerous other family members.

She leaves behind her son, Robbie Cournoyer Jr; fur babies Zeus, Simba and Little Kyle; father Mike (Renee) Ostlund Sr of Redby; sisters Shanise (Adrian) Ostlund of Bemidji, Cherai (Logan) Clark of Redby, Delaney Ostlund of Bemidji and Martina Roberts of Minneapolis; brothers Michael (Angel) Ostlund Jr of Bemidji, Dale (Thera) Whitefeather of Moorhead and Courtney Whitefeather of Red Lake.

The wake will begin at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Redby Community Center in Redby and continue until the service at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2023 with Spiritual Leader Zac Earley. Active pallbearers (Migiziikwe) will be Zack Rushman, Roger Ravensborg Jr, Dale Whitefeather, Courtney Whitefeather, Todd Anderson and Michael Ostlund Jr.  Honorary pallbearers (Oshkiimaajitahdah “Crew”) will be sisters, son, nieces and nephews, Ashlee, Roxi, Debbie, Darilyn, Tina, Neshia, Elyse, Natasha, Billie, Christina and Phylicia.  Alternate pallbearers will be Marvin Strong and Gordon Smith.  Burial will be at the family burial grounds.
