Shawn C. Martin

Shawn C. Martin, age 49, of the Marten Clan - “Waabizheshi”, travelled to the spirit world on Sunday, April 16, 2023, in Red Lake, MN.

Shawn was born on December 16, 1973, in Red Lake, MN. He lived in Minneapolis for a time before returning to Red Lake. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars with his grandpa. He also enjoyed playing softball and basketball. He loved to cook and was known for his fry bread and fried fish. Shawn liked listening to all kinds of music, especially rock, metal and country. Above all, he will be remembered as a kind, generous man who loved to make people laugh.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Aaron and Elizabeth Graves, Joaquin and Kylee; siblings: Cheyenne (Robert) Martin, Lisa (Gary) Spears, and Dakota (Matt) Kakaygeesick; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Marian and Charles Martin, his mother, Charlene Martin; aunt and uncle, Donna and Charlie Prentice, and special cousin, Patrick Long.

The wake will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Old Red Lake Center in Red Lake and continue until the service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 21, 2023. Active casketbearers will be: Adam Graves, Michael Graves, Al Oakgrove, Chris Martin, Gary Long, Charles “Chubbs” Martin III, Bill Pemberton, Jr., Wilbert Maxwell and alternate, Adrian Pemberton.  Honorary casketbearers will be: Joseph Graves, Marcus Pemberton, Jeremy Martin, Mike Martin, Gerald “Tubbsy” Martin, Charles “Tiny Man” (Faythe) Martin, Jr., Donald Kakaygeesick, Ryan Stately, William Long, Bradley Long, Jr., Bill Martin, Myron Martin, Stephanie and Dale Graves, Sonny Martin, Robert “Sam” Raisch, III.
