Sheldon "Ming" Edward Cook Sr

Sheldon "Ming" Edward Cook Sr, age 54, began his journey to the spirit world on Friday, December 27, 2024 in Red Lake, Minnesota.  Sheldon was born on November 22, 1970 to Barbara Cook and Leo Downwind in Minneapolis, MN.  

Sheldon attended school in various Minneapolis schools and later received his GED. He worked at various jobs, but recently had been employed with the OMBI program in Red Lake, where he would transport people to wherever they needed to be. He loved his job!  Sheldon was the nicest, friendliest guy to be around and had nicknames for everyone. He had jokes for everyone. He had so much love for his family, especially his kids and grandkids, who he adored. Sheldon is going to be missed so much by everyone! He loved playing pool and attended any pool tournament he could. He was also on a weekly pool league.

Sheldon is survived by sons: Sheldon “Baby Shel” Cook Jr, Kevin Cook Needham and Maurice Cook; daughters: Alyssa (Brandon) Cook and Alaina Hanks; brothers: Dave and Douglas Cook; sisters: Kimmy St John and Chelsa Johnson; nieces and nephews: Leo Cook, Billy Cook, Leah Rose Cook, Dave Cook Jr, Dion Thunder, Dominic Cook and John Henry Barrett; aunts: Mary Ellen Cook and Sammi Braddock; uncle Fabian Cook; and grandkids: Winona and Maurice Cook Jr, Wade Roberts, Blake Strong and Azalea Janis.

Those he is joining are his parents: Barbara Cook and Leo Downwind; son: Jerell Cook; sister Shannon Cook; grandparents: Teddi and Isa Cook, Rose and Xavier Downwind; step-son: Randy Hanks Jr; special cousins: Michelle “Mushy” Spears and Shirley McNeal; special friend: Amanda Lee; and many aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

A wake will begin at 12:30 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the New Red Lake Center in Red Lake, MN and will continue until the service at 1 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025 with Father John Christianson.
