Shelley Ann English, Giiwedinangookwe “North Star Woman” of the Pine Marten Clan, age 62, began her journey to the spirit world on Monday, April 7, 2025, in Fargo, ND.
Shelley Ann English, born on May 15, 1962, was the youngest of seven children to Darrill P. English and Mary Jane (Smith) English. She attended the Flandreau Boarding School and then moved to California for 20 years She worked at AC Transit in downtown Los Angeles and San Francisco. She met Luis Gonzalez-Rivera and had two daughters: Reyna and Luisa. After moving back to Red Lake, Shelley spent over 30 years working for Red Lake Chemical Health Program as the Pregnant Women and Families Outpatient Supervisor. She always made sure her clients and staff were well taken care. Her love, compassion, and cooking would heal anyone who would visit with her. Her clients would seek help because that’s what she did, was help other people in need or give someone a ride. When she wasn’t helping others, she would sew, craft, cook, gamble and play Bingo. Every holiday she would make it special and give everyone something: candy bags, food, or take you out. Anyone who would come visit her would always leave with food and her humor would capture a lot of smiling faces. There were plenty of laughs and stories she had about her travels and lived experiences. Truly, one of a kind, she was a wonderful friend, sister, aunt, cousin, grandma and mom.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Reyna (Julian) Gonzalez-Lussier, Luisa (Allen) Gonzalez; grandchildren: KayLynn Lussier, Ila Jourdain and Audric Jourdain.
Those greeting her in the spirit world are: her parents, Mary Jane (Smith) and Darrill P. English; sisters: Pamela Kay English, Eldora Elaine Malone; brother, Gary D. English; special niece, Lori K. Malone; special friends: Anita "Doodie" Lussier, Curtis Kingbird and Gerald Kingbird.
