Sheralyn "Sherry" Ruth Kiisa

Sheralyn (Sherry) Ruth Kiisa, age 85, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at May Creek in Walker, Minnesota. She was born on April 22, 1939 to Paul and René (Dale) Anderson in Erskine, MN. She spent much of her childhood in Karlstad, MN, moving to Thief River Falls for her senior year where she graduated in 1957. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated in 1961 with a degree in education. She taught home economics in Slayton, MN and then in Hibbing, MN. She moved to Minneapolis where she began working as a home economist for Northern States Power. Sherry soon met and married her beloved, Karl Kiisa, in 1968. They made their home in Burnsville, MN where they raised their two children, Mark and Kristin. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville and volunteered her time with many organizations. She worked for Litton Microwave and then later as an aide in the physical therapy department at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. 

Karl and Sherry retired to Walker in 1991. Sherry spent her retirement years in service to others. She was director of the Walker Area Food Shelf, a member of the Walker Lions, where she served as secretary, and sat on many boards at Hope Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong bridge player and was a member of many card clubs. She was proud of her two children and three amazing grandchildren. Sherry will be missed by many lifelong and new friends, PEO sisters, Lions brothers and sisters, and her loving family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Ken Schmidt, stepsister Mary Lou, and her husband, Karl.

She is survived by her son Mark Kiisa (Jennifer Fox) of Bemidji and daughter Kristin (John) Loney of Rushford, MN, grandchildren Evan, Adam and Kaia Loney, brother Dale (Mary Jean)  Anderson and sister Paulette (Peter) Huggenvik, cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

A Celebration of Sherry's Life will be held on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 305 10th Street S, Walker, Minnesota 56484. There will be a visitation an hour before the service, and a luncheon will immediately follow at Hope Lutheran Church. 

Memorials may be given to Hope Lutheran Church in Walker or the American Cancer Society.
