Steven S Rutledge, “Chimookamon” Big Knife “Waawaashkeshi” Deer Clan, age 36, began his journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in Red Lake, MN.
Steven was born on August 5, 1988 to Steve R. Rutledge and Roxanne Stillday in International Falls, MN. Steven liked fishing, playing cards, especially “Magic The Gathering”, camping and being outdoors. He enjoyed metal work and wood carving. He was a great dad and enjoyed taking his kids out in the woods, teaching them and spending time with them. He helped with cultural projects, including building birch bark canoes and playing snow snakes.
Steven is survived by his sons: Hugh M. and Bruce R. Rutledge; mother: Roxanne Stillday; grandmother: Gladys Brown; and siblings: Michael Rutledge, Kaitlyn Rutledge, Joseph Rutledge, Cathryn Rutledge, Caitlyn Stillday, Kimberly Neadeau and Rose Neadeau; and nephews: Kevin J. Neadeau, Anthony M. Roy, Josiah Neadeau; and niece: Lazhuri Gibson-Williams.
He is preceded in death by his father: Steve R. Rutledge; sister: Susan Neadeau; nephew: Aandeg Rutledge; maternal grandparents: Margaret Stillday-Jarski and Maynard LaVallie; paternal grandfather: Jerry Rutledge;
A wake will begin at 12 PM on Sunday, June 21, 2025 at the Ponemah Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah and will continue until the service at 10 AM on Monday, June 22, 2025 with Spiritual Leader Bwaananaabekwe and Helper Nenookaasi. Active Pallbearers will be Joe Rutledge, Mike Rutledge, Brian Stillday, Nate Cornelius, Adrian Tschida, Brandon Tschida, Eugene Kozlowski and Quinton Lawrence. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brittany King and Cory King. Burial will be at the Stillday Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service of Walker & Hackensack, MN.
