“Sue” Standeven, 87, of Walker, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 31, 2026, at May Creek. She had lived at Ross Place Condos for the past 30 years, where she built a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and community.
Born May 16, 1938, in Minneapolis to Catherine and Ealon Standeven, Sue grew up with her brother, Richard “Dick” Standeven. She attended Edina Morningside and Southwest High School before attending business school.
In 1957, she married Eugene “Gene” Wolter. Sue worked as a bookkeeper for Dayton’s, G&G Construction and Hackensack Lumber & Hardware, and later as a librarian at Walker Public Library.
Sue found joy in the simple and creative things in life. She loved traveling, knitting, sewing, quilting, and reading, and had a fondness for movies, especially the unique and unusual. She enjoyed making handmade cards, playing cards and dominoes, and gathering with friends for games and laughter, often accompanied by a little wine. She was an active member of the Community Church in Hackensack and later Walker, always volunteering and offering a helping hand. Known for her wit, warmth, and quiet strength, she made everyone feel welcome.
She will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and honesty.
Sue is survived by her children, Nancy (Jess) Harris and Doug (Mary Jo) Wolter; her grandchildren Heather, Ashley, Cody (Caitlyn), Brandon (Shelby), Andrea (Rachel), and Tom; her great-grandchildren Kristian, Caleb, Grayson, Samuel, Holly, Lauryn, Ellie, Josie, Taytum, Henry, and Owen; her sister-in-law, Cindy Standeven, nephew Rob (Veronica) Standeven and niece Heather (Chad) Hemquist.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Catherine & Ealon); her brother, Dick; her husband, Eugene; and her granddaughter, Christine Aaron-Harris.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Community Church of Walker, Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. and luncheon to follow. The service will be livestreamed.
