Vincent James Flocken

Vincent James Flocken, age 93, of Cass Lake MN, passed away at Sanford Hospital on Sunday, October 27, 2019.  Vince was born in Minneapolis MN on June 19, 1926, to Edward Flocken and Helena “Manderschied” Flocken.  He graduated from high school in north Minneapolis and joined the Navy when he was 18.  Vince served in multiple theaters during World War II and the Korean War.  On his return, Vince met Amy, an Ojibwe woman from White Earth, who became the love of his life and his wife for 65 years. Together they had 10 children and adopted two more.  

Vince provided a home and foundation for his family, worked hard and took pride in his craftsmanship as a professional painter. He loved music, teaching himself to play the harmonica and guitar and performed with a country western band. He was active in his church and the community. Vince was a musician, a jokester, and he loved everybody in life. He taught his family commitment and strong family values.    As one family member said,” He was a happy man, an entertaining person, and fair to all he knew. He was a gift from the Creator, a diamond in the rough of life.” 

Vince was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers, Ambrose and Francis.  He will be forever missed by his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass is scheduled at St. Charles Catholic Church, Cass Lake, on Saturday, November 2, at 1:00pm, with visitation scheduled one hour prior to the service. Inurnment at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date. Lunch will follow the service at the White Earth RTC Cass Lake office. Arrangements are by Dennis Funeral Home of Walker.
